Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Columbarium?

A Columbarium is an above-ground granite structure that allows inurnments in a private niche instead of a traditional plot.

How can I find which niche I purchased?

Our numbering system isn’t what most people picture. Most would picture numbers 1-24 as left to right, top to bottom. For most of our units, we number ours top to bottom, then left to right. Our units depict the assigned letters on the top of them. Please contact us and we would be happy to help you find your specific location.

What design options do I have? (Columbarium)

You have the option to have as many as three loved ones in each niche. Deciding how many are planning to be inurned is an important factor to the layout. The birthday and date of passing must be condensed into just years for all columbarium except those at St. Philips, who allows dates written in numbers (e.g. May 14, 1968-August 21, 2024 would be 14.05.68-21.08.24).

What design options do I have? (Monument/Headstone)

While our catalogue shows many options design-wise, in reality the sky is the limit. While we can’t technically do anything, the things that we can often are beyond expectations. While crosses and flowers are popular for a reason, you don’t have to go with “standard” options. Your loved ones favourite lookout, their hobbies, their furry friends, and their careers are all popular choices as well to be represented on their memorial. Anything that made them, them, is always a good choice. We also do custom work, so if there is a specific photo of a specific thing they loved that you are interested in including, please contact us so we can go over more specific details to get your vision become reality.

What’s a Medallion?

Medallion are small, handcrafted porcelain photos. They last a life time, but if something happens to the medallion we will replace it at no extra cost (depending on circumstance of damage). The regulatory size for all Columbariums is 2”X2¾”, however, for personal use like headstones, we offer many shapes and sizes.

What photo would work best for a Medallion?

The photos work out best when they are higher quality. A non-blurry cellphone photo would suffice, it doesn’t need to be professional. We offer photo editing at no extra cost, and can easily change backgrounds, remove other people, touch up/repair an old photo, or combining photos for when you want one medallion for multiple people. Due to the size of the Medallions, they can only show so much detail, so things like fine patterns or small objects may not be seen well. If you have a photo that you are unsure if it would work, please contact us and we would be happy to help.

How long will this take? (Columbarium)

The process timing is determined at select times of year. While we are currently working on alternatives, we can only engrave during warm, dry weather, or else we risk ruining the granite. However, we’re the only company that offers temporary lettering. While looking the same as engraving, we use high-quality vinyl to have your loved ones information on display so we won’t have to leave them unmarked until the engraving process can happen.

How long will this take? (Monument/Headstone)

Similar to the columbariums, the process timing is determined based on time of year. Our stones get brought to the island pre-cut, so it all comes down to our famous Newfoundland weather. Due to how unpredictable it is, we can never say with 100% certainty when we can start installations. Based on previous years, we start our installations around late May - early June, as we like to have optimal conditions to ensure the quality of our products and services. Wet weather, despite being Newfoundland’s default, is not ideal for installations. While some companies are fine doing their work in all kinds of weather, we prefer to take the risk out of it and wait until we can guarantee our work will be done to our standards. While the start date may seem a little late, we continue our installation season until the ground freezes, even being so late as Christmas eve some years.

What do you need from me?

We will need basic contact information such as email address, mailing address, and phone number. We will also need any information you want designed (e.g. names, dates, designs for headstones, etc).

Do I get to see what it will look like before its installed?

Of course. We don’t do anything without specific approval beforehand. You’ll receive “artwork”, a document that features exactly how it will be in real life. Please remember to double check that everything, including names, dates, and designs, is correct before you give your approval. You can make changes as needed, however once approved, we are not responsible for any mistakes given to us from the artwork. We always recommend double checking, or even having other people double check, just to be absolutely sure everything is correct. As Woodrow likes to say; “Once it’s carved in stone…”.
